Question: How to get a birth certificate attested?

Birth Certificate apostilled by MEA, New Delhi, it is not required to be further authenticated by the Indian Embassy in Ankara because both India and Turkey are members of the Apostille Convention 1961. However, if the Turkish authorities insist for the Embassy’s attestation following procedure will be followed.

1. Personal presence of the birth certificate holder. In case of minor, one of the parent must present.

2. Valid passport in original and a photocopy (first and last page) of the birth certificate holder or one of the parents in case of a minor.

3. Original birth certificate and a photocopy attested by Notary public of the district where the child is born and counter-attested by the Home Department of the State concerned. Thereafter, it is to be attested/apostilled by the Attestation Section of the Consular, Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi

In case the birth certificate is issued by authorities in Turkey, the document have to be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkey and it need not further be authentication by India Embassy in Ankara for use in India.

The Birth Certificate issued by other countries must be got attested by the Indian High Commission / Indian Embassy / Indian Consulate in that country, before it can be attested by Indian Embassy in Ankara.
